Welcome to the Prebytery of Darcey
We welcome you to the Presbytery of the village of Darcey, a building dating back to 1869, just a stone’s throw from the natural site of the Douix cave, a small idyllic and peaceful haven. The rooms, simple and comfortable, are entirely decorated by Olivier using flour paint and stencils and offer views of the church or the rolling countryside. The garden and the lounge provide pleasant and cosy spaces for you to relax.
Committed to sustainable tourism, for the well-being of our guests and the respect of our environment, we offer a vegetarian table d’hôtes with homemade dishes prepared mainly from organic and locally sourced ingredients. For breakfast, the bread, kanelbullar (cinnamon rolls), scones, and other pastries, as well as the yoghurts, are also made in-house.
Les chambres
Inspired by Swedish interiors from the 18th and 19th centuries, the rooms are decorated with natural paint, collages, and stencils. They either overlook the village church (La Douix) or the surrounding hills (La Bussaie, Les Herbiers). Each room has its own private bathroom and a desk area.
LA DOUIX – 2-3 people | 18 m² | Queen-size bed or twin beds (+ single bed available on request)
Overlooking the village church, the countryside room La Douix offers a warm and refined decor. Hand-decorated with stencils, it is spacious and includes a desk area, a small bouillotte table with two chairs. The bathroom is private.
LA BUSSAIE – 2 people | 17 m² | Queen-size bed or twin beds
Very bright, this countryside room in golden hues adorned with trompe-l’œil mouldings overlooks the garden and surrounding countryside. It includes a desk and an en-suite bathroom with WC.
LES HERBIERS – 2 people | 12 m2 | double bed
Les Herbiers is an unusual room reminiscent of a cabinet of curiosities, adorned with reproductions of Gherardo Cibo’s herbarium. It overlooks the garden and the rolling countryside.
The lounge and dining room
Breakfasts and dinners are served in the dining room. Guests can enjoy a moment of relaxation in the adjoining lounge and library.
The outdoors
The garden is freely accessible. You can visit the vegetable garden, the lawn, or the barn: feel free to set up with a deckchair or a table wherever you like, relax in the hammocks under the barn, or lie on the grass to enjoy the fresh air.
The table d’hôtes
In the morning, we prepare a delicious breakfast with homemade sourdough bread, scones, and kanelbullar (Olivier is passionate about Scandinavian culture!), depending on the inspiration of the moment.
Upon request, we serve a vegetarian dinner, every day except Thursday and Sunday: vegetables from our garden or Luc’s (Moulin de Braux), eggs from our chickens, goat cheese from Hélène (Ferme de l’Arbre Rond), flour and spelt from Benjamin (Ferme du Prieuré de Vausse). Our wines are provided by Sandrine (Domaine de la Luolle) and Aurélien (Domaine Aurélien Febvre).
“Olivier and Emmanuel have transformed this 19th-century presbytery into an incredibly cosy cocoon.”
Le Guide du Routard 2023
“The former presbytery has changed a lot since the last priest left. It has retained that touch of modesty and simplicity that gives it its charm.”
Le Figaro Magazine 2022
“They renovated this 19th-century former presbytery to add a touch of warmth, while preserving the spirit of the place.”

Votre séjour
Burgundy is an astonishing region: almost every village has its own castle! Olivier, an admirer of 17th and 18th-century art, will undoubtedly recommend a visit to the Château de Bussy-Rabutin, where the Count of the same name created a surprising setting, mixing portraits of the greatest figures of his time with small, personal, and sharp little revenges. The great forge of Buffon is another historic site where you can discover the vast knowledge of the famous naturalist.
For older architecture, Emmanuel will recommend taking a stroll through the medieval town of Semur-en-Auxois or the charming village of Flavigny-sur-Ozerain (home to the famous Anis, where you can visit the factory!). The Abbey of Fontenay, on the other hand, is particularly well-preserved thanks to its use as a printing press after the Revolution and will give you a wonderful insight into the organisation of the life of the Cistercian monks.
And to leap 2,000 years back in time, you can’t miss Alésia: the archaeological excavations and the Muséoparc will give you a detailed view of the events that took place in 52 BC. You can complement this with a visit to the Vix treasure in Châtillon-sur-Seine. For families, why not spend a day at the Parc Animalier de l’Auxois?!
In terms of nature, hiking trails will take you through the hills and valleys of the Vouivre of the Auxois, beloved by the great Burgundy writer Vincenot, or into the National Forest Park in the Châtillonnais. The underground streams of the Seine will lead you to extraordinary places such as the Grotte de la Douix (just 15 minutes on foot from the Presbytery) or the sources of the Seine.
